Mission Possible: A Mutual Strategy for Creatives and Printers

Joe Marin, Printing Industries of America
Accept the challenge and succeed! Printing Industries of America’s senior analyst, digital technologies, Joe Marin will show you how creatives and printers can communicate more effectively to reduce delays, frustrations, and most importantly, cost. This program has been open to PIAG industry members for a $49 fee. Teachers can participate as part of the Camp T&I program. The session includes a workbook called Secrets Revealed that gives tips and tricks for better communication between creatives and printers. The book alone is a $40 value.

Hands On Software Instruction

Paul Davis, Consultant
Bring your laptop and follow along as Paul gives an overview of the recent SkillsUSA contest lab, emphasizing the technical preparations the students were expected to make. Topics include: Indesign CS4, layout and texflow, preflighting, packaging, creating a PDF, preparing files for output, illustrator logo creation and color preparation (trap) techniques. He’ll also review photoshop techniques and tips for silhouettes. Take away labs on these topics to use in class. Don’t have CS4, don’t worry, Paul can assist in making modifications to your software.

2:00 – 5:00 PM – PrintED Accreditation: What is it? Why do it? What’s in it for me?
During this session, we’ll have speakers from the Georgia Department of Education talking about funding that is available for PrintED and DOE’s expectations for accreditation in the coming years. We’ll discuss the new PrintED Graphic Design competency and what is required. Finally, we’ll have a roundtable discussion where teachers who have been through the process share their materials and insight with the group. This is a great opportunity to gather curriculum for class or get started on PrintED accreditation.
