I will post the contests for prepress used in Ga in 08 & 09.
In 08 the GA student placed 2nd nationally and participated in the international contest.
I already have several elements for training in the PIAG group, which includes a short video on preflighing in InDesign.
I will also have pieces on PDF production.
The Math booklet which is already there should continue to be useful.

Does anyone have copies of the national graphic communications contest from last year? They were not included on the DVD that SkillsUSA provided. It is a little difficult to align our state contests with the national one without knowing what the national one looked like last year. It would be great to see them posted here for all to see.

In the light of the difficulty in getting software donations to hold regional, state, and national competitions does anyone think that an open-source solution might be the answer?

For open source page layout software check out http://www.scribus.net/

Scribus is an open-source program that brings award-winning professional page layout to Linux/Unix, MacOS X, OS/2 and Windows desktops with a combination of "press-ready" output and new approaches to page layout. Underneath the modern and user friendly interface, Scribus supports professional publishing features, such as CMYK color, separations, ICC color management and versatile PDF creation.

For an open source Photoshop clone checkout http://www.gimp.org/

For an open source illustrator program check out http://www.inkscape.org/

Would it make sense for SkillsUSA national to create the district and state tests so that we're all competing at the same level? I'm in the process of creating the Virginia tests, and it seems to make sense to have the national group do this instead. I mean that last statement to be more of a question!
